Let’s Hear if for our Support Network

Last weekend I taught a class that, as it turned out, was just a few blocks from my house. When I firs started on the strange, wonderful journey of being invited to teach, my husband would often travel an hour or more to help me unload and reload or even wait around until I finished.
These days I’m pretty self-sufficient (and smarter about what I bring to classes and trunk shows) so he stayed home to look after our sweet geriatric pup with bladder issues.
But quilting adventures don’t alway follow the plan. Toward the end of class I felt a migraine brewing. Not the “I need a bit of rest” kind, but the full-on, please come rescue me NOW kind. At 2:30, the emergency call went out.
My lovely supporter of all things Quilty arrived like the Calvary. He loaded my gear, chatted kindly with the ladies in class, and got me home to the couch with everything packed and my dignity (mostly) intact.
This isn’t the first time he’s been my behind the scenes hero, and I know I’m not the only quilter lucky enough to have such steadfast support. Behind every creative maker there’s often a quiet partner who:
-Puts up with the creative mess (oh the mess)
-Hauls machines, tables, ironing boards, and in my case entire pop up shops
-Offers encouragement when the seam ripper comes out
-Chimes in with unsolicited creative advice- sometimes brilliant, sometimes a bit questionable
-Keeps daily life moving (laundry, vacuuming, dog walking, etc) while I sew “just one more block”
-and steps in (without hesitation) when the unexpected happens
The the spouses, sweethearts, and significan others who cheer us on, offer opinions we didn’t ask for, handle the housework, and sometimes carry us home: THANK YOU! You are stitched into every quilt we make.
